Africa, White Raven, Pure Pleasure, Super Cosmic Wild Women, Knee Surgery, and 2017!

Hi everyone!
.
It’s hard to believe that 2016 is drawing to a close.  And it’s even harder to believe that in less than a week Joyce and I are off to Africa for a little over a month!
.
Here’s what lies ahead as Frank Leonard Photography enters 2017:
.
1)  My show at White Raven Coffeehouse in Felton is being extended into the new year, through the end of February!  This has been one of the most successful shows I have ever had outside of Open Studios, and if you have not seen it yet, you now have two more months to drop in, have a cup of coffee or tea, and enjoy my “Celestial Bodies” collection of work.  The collection includes images of comets, galaxies, and nebula, as well as images that composite together my female figure work and my astronomy images.

2)  During January I will also be the featured artist at Pure Pleasure in Santa Cruz.  The opening reception will be part of First Friday Santa Cruz.  I will be in Africa, so please come on out and represent me at the show!  There will be several new pieces of work in the show, which are the beginning of a new body of work called “Super Cosmic Wild Women!”  This was the phrase expressed by co-owner Amy Baldwin of Pure Pleasure when she first saw these images.  Here is a sample, which I call “Lunar Ecstacy.”

3)  And finally, Africa!  Joyce and I are happy to have found good friends to house sit for us, taking care of our place and our animals while we take a once in a lifetime trip to Rwanda for a week, and then Kenya for three weeks.  We will hike in to see the Silverback Gorillas before leaving Rwanda, and then will travel to Kenya, where we will be on Safari in places like the Masai Mara, Lake Nakuru, Lake Naivasha, Amboseli, and Tsavo West.  I’m taking along a camera or two, so expect some new shows when I return!  I am also taking along some of my portable astronomy equipment, and hope to do some work under dark African skies as well.  Just a couple of months after Joyce and I return, I will be having double knee replacement surgery, which is not going to be fun, but which will certainly provide me lots of good editing time as I recuperate  :o)   I look so forward to seeing what new expressions of my photography emerge from this trip.  You know I will keep you updated!
.
My love to each of you as we all travel into this next new year.  The challenges that face our country and the world will call upon each of us to be the very best ambassadors and caretakers that we can be, to each other, to the stranger, to the environment, and to the wildlife of this planet.  It will not be easy, but in our work, in our art, and in our interactions with all the peoples of this earth, may we each be a blessing that seeks to bring people together instead of driving them apart.
.
Happy New Year everyone,
.
Frank.
