Dreams Unfolding

Let’s see how I can say this.  I am sitting in a restarant, across the street from Leisure West, where the camper shell for my new truck is being installed.  This is a big day for me.  There are dreams wrapped up in the outfitting of this truck.  Last night I heard myself say, to my local group of photographers who I meet with each month, that this truck is my chance to actually get away from my projects at home long enough on occasion to really grow into the kind of time I have been given post retirement.  Growing not only in my retirement, but in my photography.

Here’s the dream as I see it:

About a month ago, I took a 6 day trip to the Mohave and Yosemite.  I took my old pickup truck with camper shell.  The last night of my trip I slept on the Valley floor in my truck.  For those of you who are following this blog, you know that sleeping in that truck was one of the highlights of my trip.  It put me in position to take some incredible images at sunrise the next morning.

Now, with my new truck, my dream and my plan are to do more of this, not necessarily for 6 days at a time, but for those times where I want to wake up looking at Mount Tamalpais, Mount Diablo, the Pacific coastline, or Castle Rock, as examples, and ready to do some photography.

It’s funny how dreams reveal themselves over time.  This truck seems like it has a central place in some of the ways I want to put my life together, and I couldn’t have verbalized that not so long ago.
